Dan Ryan Builders and the Frederick Rescue Mission joined forces again on March 29th, 2015 for the 4th Annual Mission 10-Miler. The Frederick Rescue Mission is a residential recovery program for the homeless or chemically addicted that has been serving Frederick city and the surrounding areas for five decades, which provides food to the hungry, and clothing and furniture to the needy. They served nearly 165,000 meals just last year.
This year’s event was the largest turn-out to date, with 800 runners (up from 670 last year), raising $25,000 for the cause. Participants came from surrounding areas in Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania, with one runner coming all the way from the United Kingdom. Race director and last year participant Charlie Smith states, “We’re really becoming a sizable regional race.” 750 runners signed up ahead of time, with another 50 registrations on site. Aided by the gorgeous weather and the 2 pm start time, which was a definite draw for some. “We wanted people to go to church first,” said Smith. “We’re a Christ-centered ministry.”
Next year’s race will be held on Sunday, April 3rd, 2016 at 2pm starting and ending at Harry Grove Stadium in Frederick. The race boasts a primarily flat certified course with chipped timing (including split time). All finishers receive a finishers’ medal, and prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers overall, as well as the top male and female finishers of each age category. All registrants take home some great swag, including a dry-wick tee shirt.
