A home-building player in the mid-Atlantic states for 17 years, Dan Ryan Builders recently added South Carolina, specifically the Charleston area, to its territory.
The company has constructed homes in the Deer Wood neighborhood off Otranto Road in North Charleston. Now, it's launched a new development, the 132-home Reserve at Colony North.
Dan Ryan Builders is both the builder and developer of the neighborhood, off Northside Drive and Nantucket Avenue. Early on, the company took steps to maintain the natural setting.
"The Reserve at Colony North is surrounded by mature hardwoods and has several preserved live oaks and other grand trees," said Albert van Overeem, Charleston division president for Frederick, Md.-based Dan Ryan Builders.
The community can be reached by going through the original Colony North neighborhood west of Interstate 26 and north of Ashley Phosphate Road. "We have worked with the existing civic association and replaced their old wooden entrance monument with a new brick monument," van Overeem said.
The builder also has completed paving for the first 66 home sites and is close to completing a decorated model, he said. The first three homes under construction have been sold.
"We believe it is because we are the best value in home ownership in North Charleston," he said.
Reserve at Colony North homes are 1,446 to 2,462 square feet and start in the $160,000s. Home styles offer at least three bedrooms and two baths and come with two-car garages. Standard perks include 9-foot smooth ceilings, islands and 42-inch Merillat cabinets in the kitchens, Moen plumbing fixtures, cobblestone Progress lighting and hardwood floors in the foyer, van Overeem said.
The builder has seven floor plans for Reserve at Colony North: Peninsula, Stono, Santee, Cooper, Wando, Edisto and Ashley. They are different styles and come in various elevations or looks. For instance, Santee is a traditional two-story design with four bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths. The base price of the 1,926-square-foot home is $190,400.
Dan Ryan Builders, launched in 1990, is ranked No. 88 in Builder magazine's Top 100 builders. Dan Ryan, the founder, owner and chief executive, comes from a homebuilding background. His grandfather started constructing houses in Castle Shannon, Pa., 70 years ago. Dan Ryan Builders is in five states: Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and South Carolina.
